Position Orientation

Java Full-stack Developer, with a Backend focus and strong Database expertise.

The workload focuses heavily on the backend layer and data processing. Candidates need to be strong in Java/Spring Boot and particularly in database skills, including query writing and optimization and stored procedures.

Frontend is required at a sufficient level to complete screens independently and integrate APIs; deep frontend expertise is not required.

2. Job Description

• Develop and maintain backend services using Java / Spring Boot, design and implement RESTful APIs according to existing system standards.
• Write, optimize and troubleshoot SQL queries and stored procedures on DB2 and SQL Server; analyze execution plans and handle performance, locking and isolation-level issues.
• Participate in designing and tuning data structures, including tables, indexes and DDL scripts, ensuring correctness and idempotency of deployment scripts.
• Integrate with internal and partner systems through APIs/messages; handle asynchronous business flows.
• Complete and modify web interfaces at a moderate level, connecting the backend through REST API/JSON.
• Write unit tests, support SIT/UAT testing and resolve arising issues.
• Prepare technical documentation, including API design, data design and deployment guidelines.
• Collaborate with members of the Agile team, operations team and business users.

3. Mandatory Requirements

Backend — Java

• Proficient in Java (Java 8 or above); strong understanding of OOP, collections, exception handling and basic multithreading.
• Good working knowledge of Spring, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs; understand request/response standardization, versioning and error handling.

Database

• Strong SQL skills: multi-table JOINs, CTEs, window functions (ROW_NUMBER…), aggregate queries for reporting.
• Practical experience writing and debugging stored procedures/functions.
• Query performance optimization: reading execution plans, index design and handling slow queries on large data tables.
• Experience working with IBM DB2 (high priority) and/or SQL Server. Candidates with only Oracle/PostgreSQL but genuinely strong database expertise may also be considered.

Frontend — Working Level

• HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+).
• Able to use at least one framework: React.js, Angular or Vue.js; deep expertise is not required.
• Responsive design (Bootstrap, Flexbox); backend communication through REST API/JSON.

Tools & Process

• Git (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket): branching, merging and conflict resolution.
• Familiar with a process involving code review and separate DEV/SIT/UAT/PROD environments.

Experience

• 3–5 years of software development experience, including at least 2 years of Backend Java experience with a real-world production system.
• Has participated fully in at least one full-stack project.

4. Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Insurance, Banking or Finance.
• Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift; CI/CD with Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of system architecture: MVC, Monolithic, Microservices; message queues (IBM MQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with IBM ACE/IIB, DataPower or equivalent integration platforms.
• Cloud: AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Knowledge of web application security: XSS, CSRF, SQL Injection, session management and authorization.
• Experience working in an Agile/DevOps environment.

5. Soft Skills & Attitude

• Proactive, able to execute tasks independently after receiving requirements without close step-by-step supervision.
• Careful with company and personal data; clearly aware of risks when operating on live business systems.
• Clear communication and able to raise questions early when requirements are unclear.
• Willing to provide out-of-hours support during releases or go-live periods when necessary, but not frequently.
